Practice your speech before negotiating with investors

Post by rabia198 »

How would you approach an investor to present your business opportunity? What would your sales pitch be like? What would you propose to the investor in exchange for the investment? Why should the investor invest in your business and not your competitors? When will the investor see a return on their investment?

These are key questions you need to know how to answer before approaching potential investors interested in your early-stage or growing company. Here are some essential tips to help you in this process:

Simulate timed presentations
Have a well-prepared sales pitch and practice your portugal phone numbers presentation. Use the business plan as a basis and simulate 5, 15 and 30-minute presentations. The content presented should always be similar, as what differentiates them is their detail.

Know how to answer fundamental questions
In your sales pitch, you need to address some fundamental aspects. The idea will be clearer if you have prepared a business plan. Know how to answer:

What opportunity do you want to pursue or problem do you want to solve?
What is the solution to the problem or approach to the opportunity?
How much resources will be needed?
What benefits and returns will be obtained?
Does the project have strategic supporters/partners who will provide support?
What are the risks and how will they be mitigated/managed?
Agree on the counterpart
Never offer to buy 50% of the business in exchange for the investment unless the business plan shows that the amount invested in the company will represent half of the value of the business. Don't make the mistake of offering more than necessary or less than acceptable.

Investors may walk away from the deal if they feel you don't understand the negotiation process or, worse, they may get a great deal while you significantly dilute your stake.
