Weekend, Tutanota was called a “showcase” and a “honeypot” without any proof. Tutanota – or now Tuta – is the encrypted email service focused on privacy, open source, and transparency. It is not tied to any secret service and does not include any backdoors. You don’t even need to take our word for it, as all of our client code is published for anyone to check that there is no backdoor.

This weekend, November 11, 2023, an email arrived engineering email list in our inbox from Chief Political Correspondent David Akin of Global News, Canada, informing us of the recently published testimony of accused former Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) intelligence officer Cameron Ortis. In the transcripts of the testimony, Ortis states the following.



“I was made aware of a storefront that was being created or had been created to attract targets, criminal targets, to this encrypted online service that was being created, for criminals or targets to use this service in order for the agency that had created the storefront to collect information. … It’s an end-to-end encrypted online service called Tutanota.”
