Google is creating Topics in Privacy Sandbox to replace FLoC for ad personalization following criticism of this application implemented just over a year ago.
The continuous research and experimentation that Google is used to working with has a new result: the end of FLoC ( Federated Learning of Cohorts) and its replacement by Topics , a new system that aims to improve the privacy of Internet users and thus respond to the complaints raised by the previous application. And although it is still in testing, so substantial variations may still occur, we already know some of the identifying features of this new functionality that is intended to be postponed for longer than its predecessor.
The company announced this on its own blog , where bulk sms spain it specifies that this initiative aims to provide editors, creators and developers with the tools to make their activity profitable, but also to ensure secure web pages for all users.
Topics is thus born as a new Privacy Sandbox proposal for personalized advertising, thus doubling its commitment to an activity that remains fundamental for access to many online contents to be free. And not without forgetting the complaints and criticisms that many people have made of FLoC, hence this system has been replaced by the new formula but is open to new adaptations.
The main new feature of Topics is that it is configured specifically by topics , with which the browser defines a series of topics related to the sites visited, which are those that generate the most interest, and it does so on the user's device, without the intervention of any external server, not even Google.
This means that when you enter a website where Topics has been implemented, both the user and its advertisers share the topic corresponding to each of the last three weeks, which provides a higher level of transparency and control of the data from the browser itself, but always framed within that subject.
Google has also announced that in the case of Chrome , it is already working on the possibility of allowing users to apply controls to view topics and choose which ones interest them and which do not, or even disable this functionality completely, with the consequent guarantee that it has total authority over Topics and personalized advertising. And in parallel, it prevents covert tracking of browsing history by presenting relevant ads.
