The company has put its back into it and according to its founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, Amazon has become “the largest purchaser of renewable energy worldwide.” But what exactly is it doing to have earned this position?
One goal: to consume only green energy by 2025.
Worldwide, Amazon has 127 projects, of which 68 are photovoltaic president email lists parks and 59 are wind energy parks. In 2020 alone, its total investment in renewable energy amounted to 35 projects, the largest investment by a private company in renewables in one year!
All of these projects will supply renewable energy to the brand's corporate offices, logistics centers, and Amazon Web Services data centers that support millions of customers around the world.
These initiatives are part of Amazon's commitment to power its entire infrastructure with 100% renewable energy, a goal that the company initially set out to achieve by 2030 and which is now closer than ever: at this rate they aim to achieve it by 2025.
Renewable energy around the world
It is no secret that Amazon is one of the most used platforms worldwide and that is why, in accordance with its objectives, the company is launching projects not only in the United States, but globally.
The last 26 renewable projects that they announced, wind and solar, are located in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. In the latter, they have also launched projects in California, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas and Virginia.
As if that were not enough, our country is not far behind and in Spain, Amazon announced in 2020 the entry into operation of the company's first off-site solar project outside the United States: a project located in Seville that aims to supply solar energy to the Amazon Spain logistics network and the future Amazon Web Services Region of Europe, located in our country.
