Xiaomi did not respond to a Global Times inquiry about the German investigation. Last week, the company denied the Lithuania report, saying its devices do not censor messages from or to its users, and it has never and will not block any personal behavior of its smartphone users, such as searching, calling, browsing the web, or using third-party communications software.
“Xiaomi fully respects and protects the legal rights of all users and complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR),” a Xiaomi spokesperson said.
Xiaomi smartphones currently occupy a leading position in the European market. Its market share has now grown to second place, behind only Samsung in the first quarter with 17 percent of the market share.
Its supplies to Lithuania, Belarus, Poland and other European countries occupy the first place.
