In this episode of the Sage Advice Podcast, “Business Management as a Key to Success,” Joan Boluda has an interesting conversation with Andreu Rami, co-founder of Teatrebarcelona.com and Teatromadrid.com about how they have become one of the leading portals in our country for selling theatre tickets.
You will learn about how the idea of an online business that covers the needs of its founders came about, currently being leaders in ticket sales, with a turnover forecast of €500,000 for 2024.
Teatrebarcelona.com and Teatromadrid.com are based on the idea of democratising the city's billboard, giving the same importance to small alternative shows as to the larger, more commercial ones.
This company, created by a group of friends in 2013, currently has 14 employees, eight in Madrid and six in Barcelona, apart from the four founders, and a network of expert collaborators who, after seeing the shows, generate the information sheets for each one of them.
Andreu Rami, co-founder of comoros email list Teatrebarcelona.com and Teatromadrid.com, explains how, starting from a need, they have become one of the leading portals for selling theatre tickets.

How did the idea of launching a theatre website come about?
It all started when a group of friends who were theatre fans and already had a design and consultancy business, noticed that all the big cities had a website with theatre listings, except Barcelona. Furthermore, none of these websites offered the complete listings with all the information. For this reason, they decided to create a listing that would announce all the theatre plays in the city. Both large productions and the smallest amateur theatre.
They bought the domain, did the design and programming themselves and went to all the theatres to perform.
At first they just wanted the website to be known, but little by little they began to monetise through commissions on ticket sales. Currently they also create their own content that adds value to the website, such as articles, interviews, magazines or even podcasts. Their differential and innovative point compared to other websites is that they offer the entire listings in full.

Is the project based on a hunch, a need or a mix of both?
Andreu Rami comments that this online business was born with a vocation for public service, since there was no website where the performing arts had a space to communicate their agenda in an exhaustive way. Neither in Barcelona, nor in Madrid.
The project was born from the idea of Álex Martínez Vidal and Jordi Iglesias, from Copymouse Studio, supported by the need to find information about plays. As Andreu comments: “When you found out about a play you wanted to go see, it was usually too late and it was no longer on the bill.
“The project arose above all to cover a need that the founders had and that we extrapolated to the rest of the people.”
Validation of the minimum viable product
The main value of Teatrebarcelona.com and Teatromadrid.com is a high-quality web design and programming that responds to the needs identified by the partners as theatre-goers. It was done by them themselves, so the initial investment was mainly time.
The website included an exhaustive and complete schedule of performing arts, recommendations, magazines, etc. First, a first phase of launching the Teatrobarcelona.com prototype was carried out, serving as a pilot test to check how it worked and whether it generated interest among the public.
