The name Alex Tew probably doesn't ring a bell, but if we talk about the Million Dollar Homepage project, you might remember something, right?
In 2005, British student Alex Tew, with the aim of earning money to pay for his thailand email list university studies, came up with the idea of creating a website where anyone could buy a pixel for one dollar. The goal was to raise one million dollars and the impact was so great that within a few weeks it became a viral phenomenon on the internet. Hundreds of companies wanted to buy their place in this space visited by thousands of people and in a short time they saw their sales grow, as you can see from the testimonials on the website itself at
But Tew didn't stop there. Riding on the success of the brand, in 2010 he launched a new project called One Million Person . The goal was to create a virtual book with space for one million users to include their Facebook avatar, as well as the corresponding link to their profile: around 1,250 pages! For just three dollars, each person could be part of this portrait of the global digital generation, contributing to an initiative built by and for connecting people, via a virtual context.
Currently based in San Francisco, the 28-year-old is leading his latest project, Calm.com. The idea is as simple as “bringing relaxation to an increasingly stressed and hyper-connected world.” The internet once again emerges as the preferred medium for growing a business that prioritizes the interconnected individual through a collaborative motto: “Imagine a world where everyone takes ten minutes a day to relax—to really stop and quiet the mind and briefly calm the sensory overload; to stop the mental chatter that often distracts us, as well as all the anxiety brought on by days and days of non-stop busyness—and to live only in the moments I propose. The world would certainly be a better place to live!” says Tew.
In this project, users are also the ones who choose what they want, depending on what they want: they are given the option to select the photo/video, the music and the time they need to have that quality break in time.
Alex Tew, with his successive projects, has shown us how important the power of choice is in the modern digital world. It can generate not only profit, but, above all, the growth and recognition that a brand can achieve among users who connect with projects and causes.
