Single opt-in requirements are somewhat cumbersome for B2B businesses because they require some form of consent from prospects or customers. Companies can’t just send emails to anyone they choose. However, the upside is that recipients in these countries are more likely to be familiar with your business, which can reduce spam complaints and lead to deliverability issues.

The good news is that only two EU countries appear to adhere to the strictest email marketing regulations. The bad news is that those two countries, Germany and Switzerland, represent sizable business markets.

B2B marketers doing business in Germany should offer a double opt-in consent system unless they are sending marketing emails related to products or services that the recipient has purchased in the past (from the sender). In this case, the system in Germany has the nature of an opt-out agreement, where the recipient is informed of their right to opt-out.

Similar laws apply in Switzerland. Double opt-in is recommended in that country unless the sender collects the zalo database recipient’s contact information during the product or service transaction. In that case, the communication must 1) be about a product or service similar to the one the recipient originally purchased and 2) contain an opt-out mechanism.

Double opt-in countries pose the greatest challenge to email marketers because they require recipients to take two positive actions instead of one to confirm that they want to receive email communications. The upside is that contacts who complete the double opt-in process are typically more engaged and familiar with your brand.

If your company does business in countries affected by the GDPR, make sure you understand the specific email and data protection laws in place in those countries. Above, we provided a basic overview of the current level of regulation in each EU country. However, these bulleted lists do not reveal the nuances that exist in the email marketing rules of different EU countries. If necessary, a more thorough research of GDPR countries will help your business achieve GDPR compliance.
