For foreign agents, the violation may result in imprisonment.

What happened: The State Duma passed a bill in the third reading that prohibits advertising with foreign agents. People with this status are also prohibited from advertising on Russian resources.

The law will be sent to the Federation Council, then the president will sign it, after which it will come into force.

What exactly will be banned: Russian individuals and legal entities are not allowed viber database to place advertisements on the resources of foreign agents: on websites, blogs, social networks, etc. Foreign agents themselves are also not allowed to advertise their resources in the media and Russian social networks.

One of the authors of the bill, deputy Vasily Piskarev, explained that the restrictions apply specifically to advertising that, for example, contains an active hyperlink to a profile on a social network. There will be no punishment for reposting an information message from a foreign agent with the appropriate marking.

What is the punishment: Advertising companies and media outlets face punishment under Part 42 of Article 19.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation — a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles. The media outlet will receive a warning, and if it does not eliminate it, it will be fined, the State Duma website says . There is no information about a separate punishment for Russian legal entities or individuals.

For foreign agents, the punishment is more serious: if they continue to place advertisements, they face a fine of up to 50,000 rubles for individuals and up to half a million rubles for legal entities. After two violations of the law, the punishment is toughened; if the first time there was administrative liability, now it becomes criminal and threatens punishment of up to two years in prison.
