Retailers asked not to ban foreign language signs

The Association of Retail Companies (AKORT) and the Association of Internet Trade Companies (AKIT) sent a letter to the State Duma with a request to preserve names and signs in a foreign language, writes Forbes.

What is it about: the draft amendments to the law "On the state language of the Russian Federation" are being considered in the State Duma, but the last changes to it were in May 2024. "Most websites on the Internet are written in Latin, and company names correlate with them - this allows for clear identification of the company," explains the head of AKIT Artem Sokolov.

According to his estimates, replacing the names on the signs will cost companies a total of tens of billions of rubles. Small and medium businesses, such as owners of pick-up points, will also face additional expenses.
