Think about the future
Here, things start to get serious! The variables in play increase and the risk of messing things up is, really, just around the corner.
The future of your website also depends on how you organize your navigation structure and taxonomies (categories and tags).
The example I gave you in the first point referred to the classic editorial why vnpay database is important for marketing scenario. But things change when, for example, you need to optimize an e-Commerce.
Let's say you have an e-store for shoes .
Below are 2 examples of URLs. You'll find out which one is optimized for search engines in a few lines; in the meantime, take a look!
Look at them both, think for a few seconds, and say, out loud, the answer you think is correct.
Done?
Now you can scroll down the page to see if you guessed correctly.
Searches for food delivery services increased by an average of 80%, depending on the restaurant. Amazon Fresh and Instacart showed the biggest increases, jumping as much as 200%.
Market winners in other sectors
Many retailers and other companies are benefiting from the current economic turmoil.
Moderna , a pharmaceutical company working on a coronavirus vaccine, saw its stock price jump from $18 on Feb. 21 to a high of $32 on March 18. Cleaning supplies company Clorox ’s stock price jumped from $157 on March 12 to a high of $200 on March 17. Costco , a food wholesaler, rose from $281 on Feb. 28 to $320 on March .
Both are very valid URLs !
The first URL shows the user (and search engines) the navigation structure , going from the main category - men's shoes - to the subcategory - ankle boots - and concluding with the final product - the legendary Dr. Martens.
The second URL, instead, shows the product, going directly from the domain.
For an e-Commerce , I would opt for the first URL . And I would do it also (and above all) to lay the foundations of an architecture that can grow over time.
