“The new cooperation zone on Macau’s neighbouring Hengqin Island will take a more targeted approach to boosting the country’s chip-making ambitions , with an emphasis on efforts that could lead to breakthroughs in analog chip manufacturing,” a local researcher said, expecting gradual but significant progress in one of the country’s major technology bottlenecks amid U.S. sanctions.
“Compared with Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, among other mainland Chinese cities with strong chip design expertise, the deep cooperation zone on Hengqin Island is smaller in size and can preferably be balanced for more focused strength,” said Lu Yang, an associate professor at the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI at the University of Macau (UM), in an interview on Tuesday.
VLSI, or very large scale integration, refers to the process of creating integrated circuits by combining millions of semiconductor transistors onto a single chip.
Lu cited analog, mixed-signal and power management chips as areas where the State Key Laboratory of Unified Messaging boasts industry-leading expertise. He suggested that other targeted steps could poland telegram number database include building up the zone's packet capabilities.
The lab, which specializes in advanced research into a variety of electronic systems, is one of three key state labs that house UM.

According to the circuit type, ICs are divided into analog, digital and mixed. Compared with digital ICs, including memory ICs and logic ICs, analog ICs are considered to be more dependent on design engineers and manufacturers, requiring long-term R&D commitments.
