The lack of reliable hardware support makes it "difficult" for Huawei to launch new products, Jiang Junmu, a close Huawei follower, said on Thursday.

"The company is now trying to maintain its presence in the smartphone sector and continues to 'test the waters' in broader areas such as watches, glasses, notebooks and even automotive solutions," Jiang Junmu said, adding that the company has not found a sector that can offset the decline in the mobile phone business and is still striving to do so by releasing more such products.

Huawei reported revenue of 455.8 billion yuan ($71.19 billion) for the first three quarters of 2021, a "dizzying drop" as its consumer business continued to be hit hard by the U.S. chip ban. Revenue fell 32 percent, a significant drop from a year earlier.

Foldable smartphones are becoming increasingly popular in China as more options and better prices push them out of a niche market and into the mainstream.

Huawei launched its pocket-friendly P50 phone on Thursday with an new zealand telegram number database improved camera and ultra-light design, and prices starting at 8,988 yuan ($1,400), half the price of the brand's previous foldable models.

The Pocket P50 uses Huawei's HarmonyOS, which has been adopted by 320 million devices worldwide, said Richard Yu, executive director of Huawei's consumer business unit.

OPPO's new N, the company's first foldable model, sold out "within five minutes" on online platforms including JD and Tmall on Thursday.

The model with 7.1-inch and 5.4-inch dual screens costs from 7,699 yuan.

Samsung, Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi have launched foldable smartphones. Apple and Honor are still exploring foldables.

According to industry data, sales of foldable smartphones will reach 15-20 million units in 2022.
