Social commerce is on the rise on virtually all social networks, which have surrendered to a phenomenon that brings in a lot of revenue for brands that decide to enter their domains. However, and despite the extraordinary strength of social commerce, Instagram is currently experimenting with an option that would make the shop button in its application a thing of the past.
According to The Verge , the Meta subsidiary is jamaica phone number data testing a new version of its application in which the shop button would be replaced by the notifications icon. This would mean the resurrection of the old Instagram interface (long desired by many users), although it would still have direct access to Reels.
The experiment involves a limited number of Instagram users and aims to simplify the user experience on the app. The (shockingly) "death" of the shop button is in line with a new strategy by the social network where social commerce will not play as prominent a role as it does today. Apparently, and as reported by The Information , the current shop experience will be finally buried by the social network.
Instagram will not, however, say a definitive goodbye to shopping on its platform. Its intention is to make the stores simpler and less personalized. In the version that Instagram is currently testing, the store takes a backseat and the user must access it from the options menu.
