Rich Snippets are Google’s way of providing additional context directly in the SERPs, allowing searchers to better understand what they are clicking on and how relevant it is to their intent.

When someone performs a Google search query, the SERP will present a number of websites that rank for the specified search terms. Typically, a website link will consist of a main heading that will likely have a few lines below the link, indicating what content to expect on the page. These few lines of page information below the link are called the “snippet” of the search result. In 2009, Google further refined its search results by introducing the “Rich Snippets.” Rich Snippets act as a “sneak preview” for listings on the SERP and can supplement the search query results with more detailed information. This additional information helps searchers determine which website is most likely to answer their search query.

For example, search listings for a restaurant might show average reviews and price ranges. Rich Snippets make it easy for websites to communicate with search engines in a different way. They consist of structured data that allows search engines to see different types of content on your site.
