The garage had a stepped footer. Meaning the footer was on different levels, just like your addition will be in relation to your home.

Should the Foundation Contain Reinforcing Steel?
The masonry foundation or slab must also contain structural steel. Dual horizontal steel bars 12 to 16 inches from the top and bottom of the poured concrete foundation help create a rigid concrete beam.
Concrete block foundations can incorporate steel reinforcing fabric that is installed in each row of concrete block units. Filling the hollow cores of concrete block foundations with a pea-gravel concrete mix also adds strength.
Concrete slabs may contain 1/2-inch diameter steel philippines email list bars on two-foot centers in both directions to substantially stiffen the slab. A residential structural engineer can easily specify the best solution for your particular situation.

How do you connect a new base to an existing one?
Use rebar to connect a new foundation to an existing one. Drill a hole in the existing foundation the same diameter as the rebar. The depth should be at least 4 inches. Drive a 10-inch-long rebar into the hole, leaving at least 6 inches to extend into the new foundation.
You have numerous options regarding making a physical connection between the two foundations. I have successfully installed epoxied steel pins into the old foundation.
