Signs of a Scam Phone Call
Protecting yourself starts with recognizing the red flags. Watch out for:

Urgent language: “Your account will be closed in 30 minutes!”

Requests for sensitive info: No legitimate organization asks for your password over the phone.

Unfamiliar accents or awkward phrasing: Many scam operations are run from overseas.

Caller ID that looks suspiciously close to official numbers

1. Never Share Sensitive Information
If someone asks for your PIN, password, or OTP over the phone—hang up immediately. Legitimate companies do not ask for this information in unsolicited calls.

2. Verify the Caller
If the caller claims to be from your bank manufacturing directors email list or another official organization, hang up and call the official number listed on their website to confirm the request.

3. Use Call Blocking Apps
There are numerous apps available for Android and iPhone that help detect and block scam or spam calls. Examples include Truecaller, Hiya, and RoboKiller.

4. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Even if scammers gain your password, 2FA adds an extra layer of security. Always use authenticator apps or security keys instead of SMS-based 2FA when possible.

5. Update Your Phone Regularly
Security updates help protect your phone from vulnerabilities that could be exploited in scams. Make sure your device is always running the latest operating system.

6. Educate Yourself and Others
The more you know, the better you can protect yourself. Share information with friends and family, especially older relatives who may be more susceptible to phone scams.
