There are many types and subtypes of virus software, but ransomware is a special category of malware, the danger of which has been felt by hundreds of thousands of companies around the world. Let us recall that in May, the WannaCry ransomware program literally paralyzed 300 thousand computers in 150 countries, the damage it caused is estimated at $ 1 billion. But, as it turned out, this was only the beginning.
The latest ransomware attack, called Petya, has targeted organizations and companies from countries including Ukraine, Russia, Denmark, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the morocco mobile database States. The UK Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance has dubbed it a “global extortion.” Their colleagues at E3, the Europol unit that fights cybercrime, share a similar opinion.
The industrial and government infrastructure of Ukraine suffered the most from the actions of the ransomware virus, which is similar in nature to WannaCry: the networks of Ukrenergo, the largest energy companies and banks of Ukraine were disabled, many of which suspended customer service. Boryspil Airport reported possible flight delays. The official websites of the Ukrainian authorities were also attacked: the website of the Lviv City Council, the website of the Ukrainian government, mobile operators, the largest hypermarkets, etc.
