Fortinet: Forecast of the cyber threat landscape in the near future
20.12.2018
Fortinet, a developer of integrated automated corporate information security (IS) systems, has published a forecast for the development of cyber threats in 2019 and beyond, compiled by experts from the FortiGuard Labs threat research department.
and technologies that FortiGuard Labs researchers believe cybercriminals will use in the near future, as well as important strategic changes that will help protect against upcoming cyberattacks.
Cybercriminals have made great strides in evolving their services and tools through the use of automation and artificial intelligence (AI) prototypes, according to Derek Manky, director of france mobile database security program development at Fortinet.
As a result, rather than engaging in an endless “shell vs. armor” war, companies need to learn to use automation and AI technologies to reduce the time from intrusion to detection and from detection to remediation. This requires integrating all security components into a single adaptive network security system that dynamically exchanges cyber threat data. This approach provides comprehensive information security protection and monitoring of every network segment, from IoT devices to hybrid multi-cloud environments.
Intellectualization of cyber attacks
Many criminal organizations evaluate cyberattack technologies not only in terms of their effectiveness, but also take into account the costs of their development, modification, and implementation.
In this situation, one possible solution for companies is to adopt new strategies and technologies, such as machine learning and automation of tedious and time-consuming tasks that typically require a high degree of human oversight and involvement. In turn, these actions may influence cybercriminal strategies, forcing them to modernize their attack methods and put more effort into developing them. Given the increasing use of machine learning and automation, it can be said that the cybercriminal community will likely follow the strategies described below, and cybersecurity professionals will have to follow them as well.
The forecast outlines the methods
