1. Opening of Hong Kong-China border depends on Omicron distribution
Analysts predict retail prices and rents in Hong Kong will rise when borders reopen, but Omicron's concerns cast doubt on the plan.

PRC.TODAY - Quarantine-free travel between Hong Kong and Macau and mainland China is expected to be introduced by Christmas, promising to boost Hong Kong's retail and property sectors and revive cross-border business.

On Friday, the Hong Kong government will allow people to download a health code compatible with that of Macau and the mainland so they can cross the border with full location information.

He is still discussing a "circuit breaker" with the Guangdong provincial government, hoping that quarantine-free travel will only be suspended if two clusters of local infections are reported.

Last month, health officials and experts expected the so-called reopening to begin in early December. But Beijing changed its mind because it did not want to disrupt Hong Kong's Legislative Council ivory coast telegram number database elections on Dec. 19 and events to mark the 22nd anniversary of the Macau Special Administrative Region on Dec. 20.

If quarantine-free travel is not affected by the emergence of the Omicron strain of Covid-19, Hong Kong retail prices and rents could rise by as much as 30% and 60% in the short term, property experts have said.

Manufacturers have said they will expand their retail business once the border between Hong Kong and the mainland is fully reopened, hopefully after Chinese New Year in February.

Since the outbreaks of the virus in Wuhan were made public in late January 2020, people crossing the border between Hong Kong and the mainland have had to comply with strict quarantine measures.

People must isolate for 14 days upon entering the mainland, although Hong Kong residents and mainland residents can enter Hong Kong from the mainland without quarantine under the Return2HK and Come2HK schemes.
