10 Project Management Lessons From Guardians of the Galaxy [Spoilers]

Post by metoc15411 »

Like many other action fans, I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy this past weekend. And it was great: the film had witty storytelling, well-developed characters, incredible fight scenes, and an original storyline.

I would recommend this film to everyone, but especially project managers.

Guardians of the Galaxy

While watching Guardians of the Galaxy, I was completely unemployed. I was enjoying the popcorn, immersing myself in the gorgeous cinematography, and yet… my project management hat couldn’t come off.

Guardians of the Galaxy had too many good lessons on project management to absorb. This post contains major spoilers, so don't read on if you plan to see the movie and haven't yet.

Here are just ten of the most important project importance of telemarketing lists management lessons you can learn from Guardians of the Galaxy:

1. Look for non-verbal communication.

Groot really doesn't have much to say. Literally. His lines in the film range from "I am Groot" to "We are Groot." But Groot's character goes far beyond his lack of verbal communication. His facial expressions and demeanor give life to what would otherwise be an incredibly dull personality. Viewers know Groot is "good" without him saying anything.

Project managers should take this lesson to heart. According to Project Smart, up to 90% of a project manager’s day is spent communicating , such as working with the team or giving a presentation. But instead of chatting all that time, sit back and watch how your team speaks and interacts. Pay attention to their body language and how they communicate. This can provide invaluable insight into your team’s performance. It can also reveal who is truly invested in the project (and who is not).
