“People rarely think about the fact that they may have valuable items at home that they use very rarely. Did you know that you can “put these items to work” by renting them out for a short time? It causes to choose our service won’t take much time and effort, and at the same time you will contribute to the promotion of responsible, sustainable consumption and set a good example for others,” says Eglė Staniulionė, Head of the People’s Embassy of “Bite Lietuva” in a press release.
Renting things - "Dalinuosi.lt"
"Dalinuosi.lt" is a website where people rent valuable, less frequently used items to each other.
“This website rents various types of items, presented in 24 categories: starting with suitcases, the daily price of which is from 2 euros, ending with window cleaning tools, the daily price of which is from 2 to 20 euros. We all have less frequently used items - we can earn money by lending them out. In this way, we also promote sustainable use,” says E. Staniulionė.
At the bottom of the website, in the section "How does the rental platform work?", you will find extremely useful information for both the owner and the tenant. It also provides visual information on the steps you need to take to rent out an item.
Short-term rental accommodation - Airbnb
Airbnb is a very popular platform worldwide that allows people to rent out their homes or farms temporarily, even for a day, at a time convenient for you.
“When you go on vacation, you can “employ” your accommodation — let guests from different countries of the world stay in it. Before you host guests, you will be able to read other people's reviews about them. To get started, you should register on the Airbnb website or app, and then complete other necessary steps, such as specifying the location of the accommodation, how many guests you would like to host, etc.,” says the head of the “Bitė” human embassy.
The platform will let you know in advance how much you can earn as a host. The income is calculated based on booking data from similar Airbnb listings over a period of a year. For example, if you rent out an apartment in Vilnius, you could earn around 57 EUR per night.
Platforms for selling things
We probably all have things we haven't used in a long time that just take up space at home.
"In order to consume responsibly, it is worth considering selling unused clothes, shoes, and accessories on Vinted or similar platforms. It is becoming increasingly popular to exchange or sell unused items in various Facebook groups - there are also many specialized groups there, for example, children's goods, special occasion dresses, etc. I believe that it is important to try to consume responsibly ourselves and set an example for others," says E. Staniulionė.
