In the past, the first page of Google had 10 blue links and as an SEO specialist, you had to find the right keywords to rank on the first position.

But the SERP landscape has changed so much that ranking first is no longer enough to attract your target audience.

How many results does Google show on the first page?
10? Not anymore!
I recently noticed that Google shows 7-9 results for most queries.
No, I'm not talking about mobile or branded queries.
I'm talking about generic desktop queries.
I looked at 44 keywords and only 13 of them (29%) showed 10 regular organic results.
It seems that SERP features like video carousels or local packs are causing the number of organic results to decrease.
I then looked at two large sites (>2 million monthly organic visitors) and checked how the CTR for position 10 has changed over the last two years.
For one site, it's decreased by 30%. For the other, it's even more.
We can't talk about the "top 10" anymore and we need to change our mindset.
Google is no longer a list of search results. It's a feed.
