The days of an ad-free WhatsApp are definitely over. After all, the Meta Group has to make money with the world's largest messenger. Over 2 billion people worldwide use WhatsApp, and the German market has 44 million users - it would simply not be economical for Meta to leave this potential lying around on the street.

On the other hand, the WhatsApp division's revenue has risen steadily in recent years. This revenue comes primarily from "business messaging" and the Click to WhatsApp campaigns on Instagram and Facebook. So perhaps it is not even necessary for the platform to allow advertising in the messenger if WhatsApp's business functions are also more popular here.


“Advertising in WhatsApp” is and remains a sensitive issue for Meta. The tolerance for advertising in the messenger seems to be very low. Advertising in WhatsApp must not be invasive.
